A Harare woman was yesterday dragged to court after she was found in illegal possession of ivory weighing 95kg.

Olive Dadirai Mambo was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded her in custody to November 16.

Mambo was advised to approach the High Court for bail consideration.

The court heard that on October 19, detectives from CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna received information that Mambo was in possession of ivory in the Avenues area and was looking for buyers.

Acting on the information, one of the detectives called her and she advised them that she had 100kgs of ivory and they arranged to meet at Blackstone Primary School and she charged them US$90 per kilogram after being satisfied that they were potential customers.

They met at the agree place and she took out four elephant tusks which were wrapped in sheets and upon seeing the ivory the detectives identified themselves by producing their identity cards and she failed to produce a license or permit that authorized her to be in possession of the ivory.

Mambo failed to produce any permit leading to her arrest.

The four tusks had an average of 1,6 meters each and had a total weight of 95kgs.

Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
