Woman steals US$52k from boyfriend in SA, buys cars, house

AN Epworth resident is being accused of stealing US$52 000 from her boyfriend in South Africa before returning home where she used the money to purchase two cars and a house.  

Ottilia Chikandira (35) appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with money laundering. 

She was granted US$400 bail.

She is expected back in court on January 30 next year. 

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje said Ottilia, who had just returned from South Africa, was seen spending large sums of money last Sunday, and detectives from CID Homicide were alerted. 

Investigations showed that she had d bought a Toyota Hiace Quantum for US$15 300, a Honda Fit Hybrid for US$8 600 and a house in Unit L, Seke, for US$26 000.  

After failing to explain the source of her wealth, Ottilia was arrested and US$2 300, was recovered. 

Meanwhile, three people have appeared in court charged with extortion after soliciting US$100 000 from a man suspected to have stolen money in South Africa. 

Elizabeth Nyamande (35), Evernice Nyamande (30) and Emmanuel Ngorima (38) were all freed on US$500 bail by Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.
