MASHONALAND Central based ambitious side Zambezi Coal and Gas FC are four points away from gaining their ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League status with three matches to go.
The side, which hails from Centenary, boasts of former topflight players like Steven Matsangaise, Tichaona Nyandoro, Alex Bakacheza and Nigel Kangwena.
The team is under the guidance of John Walaza, who is assisted by Noah Hlomani, Fulauns Chimukuyu and Norman Bwana, who are all confident of gaining Division One status.
Prosper Chalawe, the Zambezi Gas and Coal FC team manager, said they are happy to be fighting for promotion after they lost out to Concession United last season.
“The team was formed in 2018 and it was known as Quick 10 before Edward Paradza come on board to support us. We are happy that we are about to make it after several years. We have a very good side which is a mixture of seasoned and young players.
“We are now expecting to win our next game so that we go into the last two games without pressure,” said Chalawe.
Chalawe believes they have the capacity to play in Division One after Concession United, who were promoted from the same league, failed to last the distance and have since been expelled from Division One.
“I think we are in good hands. Our sponsor, Zambezi Coal and Gas, have stood by us. I am sure Paradza has since expressed his desire to see some players come from Centenary and around Mash Central province, which he has shown by donating soccer balls to all teams we played with away from home.
“At the moment we are using Garwe Stadium at Gato Primary and if anything, we will opt for better stadiums like Tsungubvi, Concession, Trojan and Mvurwi, among others within the vicinity,” said Chalawe.
