Talented choreographer and dancer Maxwell “Yuki” Kanzara says Leonard Zhakata has ‘anointed’ and blessed him as he unveils his solo project today.
Titled Signal, Yuki’s album was recorded at Truetone Studios by Jabulani Ndlovu and mastered by veteran producer Bothwell Nyamhondera.
It carries seven tracks of superior quality namely Sarura Wako, Nguva featuring Trymore Bande, Pindirai featuring Vabati VaJesu, Shingirira, Pfuma, Wongorora and Nhare.
Kanzara who joined Zhakata’s Zimbabwe All Stars group 21 years ago said he was still part of the Mugove hit-maker’s outfit.
“I’m releasing my album on the 29th of June (today) and it feels good that I have all the blessings of my paymaster who has also anointed me.
“Let me hasten to say that I haven’t quit Zimbabwe All Stars but these are solo projects to keep ourselves busy on lockdown.
“We can’t afford to be lying idle because people still need fan in these trying times we find ourselves in,” he said.
Kanzara said Zhakata has always wanted them to grow musically.
“Zhakata is not that kind of boss who would get angry when one wants to start a solo career.
“He has been supportive to us over the years and that is why you see ourselves doing solo projects with his blessings.
“This cannot be viewed as competition because we can’t compete with the best and founders of the game,” he added.
Yuki is not the first Zora artiste to record a solo project while still serving their paymaster.
“By the way I am not the first band member to record an album if you really follow the trends but I a m trying to prepare myself to be versatile in showbiz.
“There is a time when the body will not be fit to dance all the night and I am just preparing myself for the future.
“In life, there is need for one to come outside their comfort zones and really work hard and reinvent ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Zhakata is widely believed to be an open minded boss who gives his members some chances and opportunities to experiment by recording solo albums.
He is also set to release some videos off the new album thanks to Eagle Focus Films.
“We are also shooting some videos and we want to drop the visuals to complement our audios since this has become the trend world over.
“We also want to monitise from visuals as is the case with other artistes,” he added.
