WARRIORS Goal-Keeper Edmore ‘ZiKeeper’ Sibanda has urged fellow goalkeepers to remain focused ahead the Africa Cup of Nations set for June 21-July 19 in Egypt.

The Warriors will kick start their journey with a clash against hosts Egypt in a match first choice goal-keeper George Chigova will not play due to suspension.

Speaking at a Warriors send-off dinner held in the capital on Tuesday night, Sibanda said whoever is picked to play the match should do his best.

“Sometimes someone gets injured, sometimes someone is suspended all you can hope for is to be fit and well when your opportunity comes.

“George has been doing well, the onus is now upon me, Elvis or Talbert, whoever is picked to play that game to just take the torch from where George has been doing going forward.

“It’s not necessarily about me but the goalkeeping department because it might not be me on the day so we are just trying to push each other as a group,  as Goal-Keepers that be well be fit and be mentally on for that day,” Sibanda said

The Warriors provisional squad has four goalkeepers namely, George Chigova, Edmore Sibanda, Elvis Chipezeze and Talbert Shumba.

Asked if they are not intimidated by their first opponent’s players like Mohamed Salah, Sibanda said for him experience has served him better.

“No, like now I’m older. If it was five, six or seven years ago, it could have been a different story but imagine I played against the likes of Kaka and Robinho when I was even younger.

“Sometimes whether you are afraid the game is going to be played.

“Now with the experience I know as long as I am playing its either I’m playing with fear or I just take it upon myself to tell myself this is it, this is my opportunity.

“You would rather fight to have yourself mentally or physically fit for the game than to think that there is that one on that side all I can do is focus on me work on what I feel I’m lacking  hope for the best and leave everything to God.”

Currently the warriors left for Durban, South Africa where they will be hoping to defend their COSAFA title.
