PRESIDENT Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe is proud to have a world karate champion in Shihan Samson Muripo.

“He is the first world karate champion to come from Zimbabwe and this is the pride of Zimbabwe.

“There is a function that is going to come, to be organised by the Minister of Sport. He will be invited to attend.”

President Mnangagwa said during that function Shihan Muripo will be honoured for his exploits together with other local sports persons who have excelled in their respective disciplines.

The President said this at State House yesterday where the World Karate Union yesterday presented him with a 5th Dan Black Belt, 5th Dan Certificate and Karate Dogi (uniform).

The WKU said the donation was in appreciation for the President’s understanding of karate and long-time friendship with the global body.

“The Zimbabwe So-Kyokushin Karate-Do Organisation, led by Shihan Samson Muripo ,and his team comprising of Senpai Denford Mutashu (Chairperson Sponsorship Mobilisation Committee) Sempai Kudakwashe Mutenda (International Protocol Manager), Sempai Rumbidzai Takawira (Public Relations and Protocols Manager) accompanied by the Japanese Ambassador, H.E Tanaka, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Officials myself, president of ZKU Sempai Steven Charandura, had the Honour to meet with the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe His Excellency Cde E. D. Mnangagwa and presented a special gift to him on Wednesday the 20th of May 2022 at 0800hours at State House,” ZKU president, Charandura, said in a statement. – Herald Reporter/H-Metro Reporter.
