THE Young Chevrons will get their ICC Under-29 World Cup Super Six Stage with a Battle of Limpopo showdown against neighbours South Africa in Potchefstroom tomorrow.
Zimbabwe lost two of their three group games but a convincing win over Namibia took the Young Chevrons into the Super Six stage.
However, they will not carry any points into this phase which means that their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals are virtually non-existent.
But, the Young Chevrons will probably still be happy to be there, among the elite teams, in the business end of the tournament.
Zimbabwe will also play England in their other Super Six match on Saturday.
The Super Six matches get underway tomorrow with the final of the tournament set for February 3 in Benoni.
Teams carry points, wins and net run rate earned against their fellow qualifying teams into their respective Super Six groups, and will each play two further matches before the semi-finalists are determined.
Among the standout fixtures in the Super Six stage are defending champions India v New Zealand in Bloemfontein today, Australia v England in Kimberley tomorrow and Pakistan v Bangladesh in Benoni on Saturday.
“The six teams to make it from Groups A and D are India, Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal,” said the ICC.
“South Africa, England, West Indies, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe progress from Groups B and C.
“USA, Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland – the four teams who didn’t make the second stage of the tournament – will contest in play-offs for the last four places.”
