THE Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) has joined the music fraternity in mourning the death of Insimbi Zezhwane lead vocalist Elvis Mathe in a road accident on Sunday.
Better known as MaEli, the lead singer died together with drummer Thembinkosi “Maviri” Mpofu, in a horror crash near Fatima along the Bulawayo Victoria Falls Road.
In a statement, the Zimura board said:
“Zimbabwe Music Rights Association extends its deepest condolences to you all on the tragic loss of Elvis Mathe, known as ‘MaEli,’ the lead vocalist of Insimbi Zezhwane, and Thembinkosi ‘Maviri’ Mpofu, the group’s drummer.
“The news of the horrific road crash that claimed the lives of both MaEli and Maviri has left us all in shock and disbelief.
“Their untimely departure from this world is an immense loss not only to the band but to the entire music community and all those whose lives they touched with their extraordinary talent and infectious energy.”
The statement added:
“We mourn the passing of these remarkable artists who graced the stage with their mesmerising performances and soulful melodies.
“Their contributions to the rhumba genre, and the Zimbabwean music scene as a whole, will forever be remembered and cherished. band, their families.
“May their souls find eternal peace and may the memories of their vibrant performances bring solace and healing to all those who mourn their tragic loss.”
