A number of people have applauded Government directive to reduce ZUPCO transport fares.
The reduction, some said discouraged illegal transport operators who had doubled the fare forcing commuters to walk longer distances to and from work to cut costs.
One Kambuzuma commuter said the recent increase in fares had forced him to wake up early and foot to light industry where he works.
“Government has heard our cries by providing ZUPCO as well as directing them to reduce the fares,” he said refusing to identify himself.
“Transport costs negatively affect our budget in terms of accessing basic commodities.
“Going to work is a must but if the costs increase that means our lifestyle and budget is negatively affected.
“You cannot put on a suit and walk all the way to light industry where I work.
“We thank the Government for giving us an ear because vemushikashika vanga vatowana pekutikuvadzira,” he said.
“Hats off to Zupco for slashing fares,” said one Ba Tino J Jones of Greystone Park.
One Joseph Chikovo of Waterfalls said the reduction of fares would go a long way to assist people.
“This helps to enable us to go to work daily for the betterment of our companies and our nation Zimbabwe,” he said.
A number of people have turned to ZUPCO following a sharp increase in robbery and rape cases associated with illegal transporters.
